Striking a Perfect Work-Life Balance in 2020

Finding a proper work-life balance can be a tall order. Often, we get so preoccupied with work that we simply lose sight of the bigger picture. Our personal life starts to suffer, leading to all kinds of problems. Suddenly, we don’t have time for our friends or family, let alone our hobbies. It seems that all we do is go to work and sleep. This is a sure recipe for burnout. When that happens, many people take it as a wake-up call to get their work-life balance in order. The problem is that is you wait that long, sorting out your life is much harder. The key is not to wait but try and prevent burnout from happening. Here are some tips on how to do that.

Striking a Perfect Work-Life Balance

To be honest, a perfect work-life balance may be something of a unicorn. There will always be things that will derail your efforts towards that goal, whether on a job or at home. But just because it is impossible, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t strive for it. In the immortal words of Wayne Gretzky: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Make sure you do take them. Sometimes you won’t be able to get home on time and you will spend several evenings in a row at the office. That doesn’t mean you should make a habit out of it. Next week, try to get on time every day. Life is all about compromises and

Start Exercising

The benefits of regular exercise are proven well beyond doubt and can offer a great way to relieve some of the stress you have accumulated during your day at the office. A sedentary lifestyle most of us lead is very detrimental to our health and well-being. A nice session at the gym will do wonders to alleviate some of the problems it causes. There are plenty of apps that will help get you started and keep you on track. We would recommend Jefit as an excellent gym partner.

Play Games

Make sure that you find time to play games. They are a great way to relax and put the real world out of your mind, at least for an hour or two. You don’t have to invest hundreds of dollars into a gaming rig to accomplish that. You can download one of many apps on your phone and have some fun. If you are into online gambling, you can get the AskGamblers app and try your luck. You never know if a jackpot is waiting for you around the corner. After all, you can hardly find a better way to eliminate stress from your work like quitting and retiring on a tropical island.

Most people hate visiting the doctor’s office. The idea of spending an hour or two being poked at and asked often awkward questions simply doesn’t sound like fun. In fact, it is quite the opposite. But regular checkups can save you a lot of grief down the line. Even small health issues, if left unchecked, can cause major risks, given enough time. By keeping an eye on your health, you can have a measure of certainty we all so desperately need in our lives. And if doctors find something wrong, chances are that it can be remedied if you catch it early.

Spend Time with Friends and Family

Nothing kills stress like spending time with the loved ones. Being too busy to do so will lead to a lot of regrets later. Spend time with your parents, they won’t be here forever. Talk to your children as much as you can, since the day they will go away is nearing. Don’t forget your significant other and include them in your plans as much as possible. Make sure to set aside time for things like travel and romantic dates.

Take up a Hobby

Preferably, something that doesn’t have anything to do with your job. If you spend a lot of time in the office, find a hobby that will take you outside or is more physical in nature, like woodworking. There are a ton of videos on YouTube that can help you get started, even if you don’t have any prior knowledge about a hobby. Spending some time on your own, doing an activity you enjoy is a wonderful therapy for relieving the effects of stress.

Employ Technology

Technology is here to help us and make our lives easier. Once you realize this, making it work in your favor will be an easy next step. For instance, do you really have to go to the office for that meeting on Saturday, if you can use Skype? Instead of wasting a whole morning on the commute, you will be done in 15 minutes and have the rest of your weekend to enjoy yourself. If you have all the necessary files online, you don’t have to stress if you have forgotten to do something. You can simply log on from your home and have it ready for tomorrow. Working after hours from home isn’t really recommended, but it still beats going back to the office in the evening.

Go for Vacation

People who never use their vacation days and end up saving hundreds of them are a mystery. They aren’t doing anyone a favor, least of all themselves. Use your vacation days for relaxing trips that will let you recharge your batteries and come back to work with new enthusiasm. Not only your life will be better, but your work performance as well.

Burnout is a real thing that affects a lot of people. There is nothing wrong with being workaholic and giving 110% at work. If you can do this, more power to you. But keep in mind that such fast tempo is unsustainable in the long run. Eventually, you will crash and it won’t be pretty. You have it in your power to prevent this by making the necessary adjustments in your life. Make them while you still can, or your health will make them for you.
