Intex Hot Tub and Pool Review
Looking to try something different? Just like the name suggests, the Intex Hot Tub and Pool Set is an inflatable hot tub and swimming pool combined all in one.
The idea is so that adults have a spot where they can relax, and the children have a designated area alongside it where they can play.
It’s an innovative idea, and perfect for families. If you've ever had the experience of climbing into a hot tub for a moment of serenity, only to be disturbed by children, the moment can be anything but relaxing. In contrast, what should have been a home spa experience turns into a splash zone!
This is why the Intex PureSpa Hot Tub and Pool Set is so great. It provides two designated areas in one big inflatable design, providing two areas for both parents and children.
If you like the sound of it, you’re in the right place.
In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at the different features this hot tub and pool set offer, so that you can decide if it’s the addition your garden is missing.
Intex Hot Tub and Pool Overview
There’s a lot to love about this pool and hot tub duo.
It’s 152 inches long x 70 inches wide x 28 inches deep. So, in other words, there’s plenty of room to host a gang of people on sunny days, or if you’re planning a barbecue party! As it’s so large (13 feet long by 6 feet wide) you’re going to need a big area to site it, which is something to keep in mind.
As for the design, one-third of the area is the hot tub, and the remaining larger area is the pool. The hot tub is significantly smaller than the pool and is able to accommodate around 4 full-sized adults, and the pool area can hold around 8 people, depending on size.
If you’re looking for a hot tub that’s going to allow you to kick back and relax, this one from Intex ticks the box. However, we recommend limiting the hot tub area to a 2 person capacity, so that there’s extra space for legroom.
One of the coolest features that the Intex Purespa offers is bubble air jets in both sections. The hot tub has 120 jets, and the pool area has 150 jets.
This means that while you can enjoy an indulgent ‘massage’ effect against your lower back and legs in the hot tub, children can have plenty of fun creating waves in the pool.
It’s also worth noting that, while the hot tub is automatically heated by the digital heating system, the pool isn’t.
We actually think that this is really smart, as it will allow you to alternate between the varying temperatures throughout the day, just like you would in a hotel resort.
Not only that, but due to the size (the hot tub area is able to hold 210 gallons, while the pool area holds 310 gallons of water), it means that running costs will be kept to a minimum if the hot water is limited to the hot tub.
All in all, when filled up with water and people, the Intex Hot Tub and Pool Set will weigh upwards of 4,500 pounds, so it’s important that you place it on a solid floor or a reinforced decking area.
If you place it on a weak deck or uneven ground, it’s highly likely that you’ll notice damage to the inflatable structure over time, as well as damage to the site.
Not to mention, it will be extremely unsafe, so we highly recommend double-checking the location you plan on keeping it with a qualified professional if you’re unsure.
As for construction, the Intex Hot Tub and Pool are made of high-quality Fiber-Tech material that has an inner, reinforced lining of PVC panels.
This makes it very strong and durable, and able to withstand regular use without any damage to the materials.
It’s sturdy enough to withstand 4 fully grown adults sitting on the sides of the hot tub without any buckling, as well as children playing, jumping around, and generally getting in and out.
This hot tub and pool duo also feature 2 inflatable benches which are intended to be situated on the outside of the hot tub and pool area. They’re fantastic for whenever someone wishes to sit down and take a break without getting any garden furniture wet.
Another feature that really sets the Intex Hot Tub and Pool apart from the rest is that it features an integrated hard water treatment system. It works by creating an electromagnetic field that is able to agitate the chemicals found in hard water so that they can be efficiently filtered away by the built-in filters.
This means that the water will remain soft, safe, and gentle on the skin, making it a great low-maintenance choice, as well as ideal for anyone that lives within a predominantly hard water area.
In addition to this, the Intex Hot Tub and Pool also comes with a high-quality cover. You can use it to keep your water protected and clean when it’s not in use, throughout the nights, as well as while it’s raining.
It has also been cleverly designed by Intex to give you the option of only covering one area. This means that, if you wanted to use the hot tub but not the pool, you could simply cover the pool area while enjoying the hot tub.
How to Set Up the Intex Hot Tub and Pool
One of the only downsides to this set is how heavy it weighs in the box. It weighs a total of 225lbs, which was quite surprising to us.
Before it gets delivered to your home, you’ll need to prepare a way for it to be safely transported to your garden area, especially if you do not have a garden side door.
Due to its large size and weight, the Intex Hot Tub and Pool will likely take longer to set up than smaller, regular hot tubs.
However, the instruction manual is extremely straightforward, and once you have it located in the spot you plan on keeping it, it should only take you around 30 minutes from start to finish.
All you’ll need to do is lay the insulated groundsheet onto the area that it’s going to be kept on. Then, you’ll need to lay-out the inflatable structure directly on top of the groundsheet and then attach the inflation hose to the inflator.
Once connected, it should take around 20 minutes for the hot tub and pool to fully inflate.
For total convenience, Intex has included a useful air pressure gauge that comes in the package. While it is inflating, you can use it to check the air pressure which will help to guide you as to when it is fully inflated.
We recommend inflating the 2 benches before you inflate the hot tub and pool because, once the hot tub and pool has been set up, it can be tricky to attach the inflator and hose to the benches.
After you’ve set it up, then you’ll be ready to fill it with water! You’ll need to fill both the hot tub and the pool area with water to the maximum fill lines, even if you only want one area.
This is important because otherwise, it can cause the infrastructure to become unbalanced and unstable. After you’ve filled the hot tub up, you can then turn on the digital water heater and set it to your ideal temperature.
Who is the Intex Hot Tub and Pool Ideal For?
- Big families looking for a cost-effective alternative to a separate pool and hot tub
- Those who live in a hard-water area
- Families that want a sturdy, durable model that will last for many years
- Those that host big garden parties, kickbacks, or barbecues
Who is the Intex Hot Tub and Pool Not Ideal For?
- Those that have limited garden space
- Families that only want a pool
- People that want a hot tub with a larger capacity than 4 persons
With its combined pool and hot tub, we can see why the Intex Hot Tub and Pool is such an appealing choice! It’s fantastic for families and is a great way for parents and children to spend time together, while still being able to have their own space.
In particular, the hot tub design is a real stand out to us and provides everything you need for total relaxation. The digital control panel is right next to the tub so that you can control the temperature and water jets, while the designated pool area will keep kids entertained for hours.
We also really like the additional features. The insulated cover will allow you to cover one area at a time, while the benches are perfect for taking a break, grabbing a snack, or talking to friends. It’ll certainly make summers more memorable!
