Baldness, Nail Fungus, Chronic Stink – How to Overcome Stigmatized Conditions and Emerge Manlier and More Attractive than Ever

How to Overcome Stigmatized Conditions

Go to Google, type the keywords ‘ideal male’, and what do you get? Irritating images of good-looking members of the species showing off their lean, muscular bodies – topped off with that perfect thick mane of hair, dazzling smile, and smoldering gaze.

Yes, regular dudes are all in trouble. No wonder dealing with certain challenges, such as a receding hairline, ugly nails, and body odor, can be excruciatingly painful… especially to self-esteem.

And as if handling our less-than-ideal body image issues is not worrisome enough, we have to live with those judging looks and harsh comments from the people around us. It’s a cruel world out there.

Today, we discuss three conditions that tend to be highly stigmatized in our society: baldness, nail fungus infection, and chronic stink. Luckily, there are solutions to these problems.

And then, I’ll share with you the secret to being attractive, in spite of our less than perfect physical appearance. Hint: it is not airbrush.

What it is: Also called androgenetic alopecia or male pattern baldness.

It is estimated that over 50 million men in the US have this condition- so if you are one of them, rest assured that you probably will not be the only bald guy in the room.

The most common cause of male pattern baldness is too much dihydrotestosterone (DHT), brought about by excessive testosterone production. Other contributing factors are genetics, age, stress levels, certain medications, and unhealthy lifestyle practices.

The bad news: There is no definite cure for baldness- and current options may only work temporarily (finasteride and minoxidil) or come with a hefty price tag (hair transplant and laser therapy).

Though men would rather keep our emotions bottled up, it cannot be denied that male pattern baldness is associated with feelings of frustration, depression, loss of self-esteem, social withdrawal, and even suicide. Thick hair connotes youth and vitality, whereas hair loss signals aging.

And another thing, history shows that Americans have not elected a bald president into office in 63 years, so you might want to think twice before filing in your candidacy.

How to deal: Hair transplant is currently the most effective way to bring back your hair to its full glory, but it may cost a staggering $4,000 to $15,000.

Low-level light therapy may work for mild to moderate male pattern baldness cases- a LaserCap sets you back $3,000 and it may take around six months before you can see results.

Other treatments are being studied now, but it may take a few more years and thinned patience before other effective therapies can be introduced to the market.

Forget about combing your remaining hair over your bald spots, as that will only make your condition appear more obvious. If forking over that amount of cash is not feasible for you, the best thing you can do is to embrace your new, more mature look and go for a shorter hairstyle. Learn more here:

Or just shave your head- studies show that women actually prefer bald men over those with awkward-looking thinning hair. You may even give off a sexier and more masculine appeal, according to scientific studies.

Nail Fungus

What it is: Also called onychomycosis or tinea unguium, it is a stubborn infection that may cause ugly, discolored, and deformed toenails or fingernails. It is far from being life-threatening and is generally painless, but has to be addressed immediately to keep the fungus from spreading and leading to even more embarrassing conditions, such as the crazily-itchy and dreaded jock itch.

Exposing bare feet to warm and moist places and keeping nails damp may make you susceptible to contracting nail fungus infection, so don’t forget to bring your flip flops or water sandals when you go swimming or buff up at the gym.

The bad news: Unfortunately for us, men get nail fungus infection more frequently than women. There are several home remedies, topical and oral antifungal medications, and laser therapies available. However, none of them is shown to be 100% effective and you might have to wait until a healthy new nail grows fully before you can get rid of your horrible-looking nail.

Now, let’s talk about feelings: the condition might lead to reduced self-esteem, embarrassment, and minimized willingness to be part of the action in social and athletic activities.

It’s also worth mentioning that in a 2015 survey, women spilled their top 20 biggest turnoffs and guess what made it to the top of the list: dirty, uncared-for fingernails (especially when you are trying to put them near their bodies!).

How to deal: It is not recommended that you cover your infected nail with colored polish – that will just provide a dark environment that is perfect for the fungus to thrive in, and you might also attract the wrong kind of attention with your colored nails.

Early treatment is the key to complete cure, so see your dermatologist or podiatrist immediately when you start to notice signs of nail fungus infection. Don’t waste any time – remember, women, want to see clean fingernails.

Chronic Stink

What it is: Also called bromhidrosis or osmidrosis, or just simply body odor or BO. It most commonly occurs under the armpit and is caused by bacterial overgrowth on the skin.

It starts around the age of puberty, and of course- not taking a shower regularly will make you prone to developing that pungent, “sweet and sour” scent that will send people running in the opposite direction.

The bad news: Men develop stronger body odor than women, due to our more active sweat glands. A perfume will not work against the stink – it might even combine with it to produce a more unpleasant, stomach-turning smell.

And no, Axe deodorant will not give you massive sex appeal, but it can help get rid of your body odor.

How to deal: In most cases, this is just a matter of personal hygiene: take a shower every day and use an antiperspirant deodorant. Come on, it doesn’t get easier than that! If you still reek after a shower, use a strong antibacterial soap and avoid certain food, such as garlic, asparagus, eggs, etc.

The Secret

Self-confidence – that’s all you need, plain and simple.

And you do not need those toned abs, big biceps, or a full head of glorious hair to project a manly image. Confidence begins from the mind and it means embracing your imperfections, being able to look another person straight in the eye, and standing up for what you believe in.

Hear it straight from the women: April Masini, bestselling author and relationship expert behind the Ask April advice column said,

“Men who are straightforward, open and honest in a relationship project sexy confidence, and that’s an aphrodisiac that beats oysters any day.”

Confidence is sexy. And it is the most attractive thing that women can see in you.
